1885 · A house on Main Street
The house was built in 1885, in the years following the arrival of the railway in Luray. Over time, it served several purposes, including a dress shop, a rest home, and a tourist travel house.
The Inn

Blue Ridge Botanica pairs the character of a Victorian-era inn with a fresh botanical perspective. Our vision is a place that feels layered, welcoming, and full of small discoveries—where modern comfort sits naturally within a house with history.

Antique glass, crystal chandeliers, and rooms with their own distinct personalities: the house offers plenty to notice, and room to enjoy it. The Botany, The Apothecary, and The Aviary each pair a king bed and luxury bamboo bedding with a private bathroom, standing shower, and Jacuzzi tub.
Step outside onto a balcony, settle on the front porch, or spend a quiet moment in the garden. From our Main Street address, you can shape a stay around downtown Luray, mountain scenery, or the pleasure of staying in.

The house was built in 1885, in the years following the arrival of the railway in Luray. Over time, it served several purposes, including a dress shop, a rest home, and a tourist travel house.
By the 1990s, the building had fallen into serious disrepair. Deborah Woodruff and her husband saw what it could become and undertook a careful restoration. Crystal chandeliers, stained glass, decorative flourishes, and a commercial kitchen helped bring a new chapter to life as the Victorian Inn & Restaurant.
Matthew and Janina, with innkeeper Art, reopened the property as the Inn of the Shenandoah in 2020, continuing its tradition of welcoming visitors to the valley.
Ashley and Erica purchased the inn in August 2026 and began thoughtfully reimagining its spaces. With botanical inspiration, upgraded comforts, and respect for the house’s character, Blue Ridge Botanica is the newest chapter in a long story of hospitality.

We imagined an inn that feels special without making you feel you have to stand on ceremony. A place where you can admire the details, put down your bags, and settle into a chair that quickly becomes your favorite.
The natural world gives us a rich starting point: the shapes of leaves, the character of birds, and the curiosity behind botanical collections. Those influences appear throughout the house, alongside the Victorian features that made us fall in love with it.
Our work is to care for what gives the inn its character and make it comfortable for the way people travel today. We’re glad you’re here for this next chapter. — Ashley & Erica
Beyond the three suites, four shared spaces offer different ways to enjoy the inn. Find company around the table, daylight in the Conservatory, a quiet pause in the Study, or a slower evening in the Library.
